Turning 16-years old is a big deal for teenagers. Girls, especially, look forward to celebrating their 16th birthdays. Turning 16 is significant in that in the United States 16-year-olds can drive, and it’s the age of legal consent. Turning 16 has also been made popular by teen movies such as Sixteen Candles and pop music songs like Hilary Duff’s Sweet Sixteen.
MTV’s show My Sweet Sixteen has also made the celebration of these birthdays legendary. Because of all the cultural hype surrounding this birthday, most young girls feel entitled to a celebration. But, if you don’t approve of letting your teen have a huge blowout party involving the opposite sex, why not let her take a few friends to the spa for a day? Manicures, pedicures and facials are all adored by beauty-conscious teen girls. Instead of traditional sweet 16 party favors they will arrive home with prettily painted toenails and fingernails.
